What is a Magnetic Lifter?

A magnetic lifter is a powerful magnetic device designed to assist in lifting heavy objects. Technically speaking, a magnetic lifter—also known as a magnet lifter or lifting magnet—is a lifting tool used to hoist steel and other ferrous materials. However, due to its structural properties, stainless steel is not magnetic.

Typically, an operator places the magnetic lifter above the metal object and then activates the magnet to lift the item. 


Magnetic lifters are ideal for handling steel plates, forgings, castings, and similar items in workshops, warehouses, and industrial processing facilities. However, the lifting capacity depends on the thickness and composition of the metal being lifted. For safety, it's recommended that the actual breakaway force be at least 3.5 times the maximum rated lifting capacity.

  • Only qualified personnel should operate magnetic lifters.
  • Always inspect the equipment to ensure it is in proper working condition.

  • Never move a load over or near personnel, as this could result in injury or damage.
  • Ensure that no one is standing or passing under the magnet during operation.
  • Keep a close eye on the load until it is securely lifted.
  • Do not use magnetic lifters at temperatures exceeding 148°F (approximately 64°C).
  • Regularly have your magnetic lifters inspected by experts to ensure they are in good working order.
